Error codes

# Ice machine error codes, read properly.

A code narrows the search and is also the thing most often read wrong: the same characters mean different things on different brands, and a fair number of the codes people look up are not failures at all — they are modes the appliance was left in.

## Find your code, make by make.

Type the characters exactly as the display shows them, or pick the make. Each code has a page of its own: what it means on that brand, what to check, and what not to do.

### Only confirmed codes

Every code here is taken from the manufacturer's own documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. If yours is not listed, book with the exact characters and the full model number, and we will tell you whether it is one we take.

## Three things before you look it up.

A code is a lead, not a verdict. These decide whether the answer you find will be any use.

01

### Note which light and what it shows

Write down the code, the number of flashes or which light is lit. A photo is best, since switching off can wipe it.

02

### Photograph the data plate

On a modular head it is often on the back or under the front cover's edge; on an undercounter machine behind the grille. One code can mean a long freeze on one make and a drain problem on another.

03

### Water, heat or gas?

If water reached an outlet or a walkway, something smells hot and electrical, or you hear a hiss or smell gas, keep the power off and book today. A code on a machine still dropping good ice can wait for a regular slot.

## What each kind of code means.

Codes fall into a handful of families. The family says more about the likely repair than the characters do — and one of them is not a repair at all.

[How to read a code](https://icemachinerepair.center/problems/ice-machine-error-code/)

### Mode, not a failure

36 codes

Nothing is broken; the control is reporting a state someone chose or a routine it runs: a clean or sanitize reminder counting the hours since the last cycle, a delay of a few minutes after power returns before the pump and compressor start, a bin-full light while the bin control is satisfied, or a standby or off mode someone chose at the keypad. No part is needed; finishing the cycle the light asks for, waiting out the delay or the key sequence from the manual ends it.

### Water supply

27 codes

The water side came up short: the trough did not fill in the time allowed, the float or level probe never saw water, or water kept flowing when the inlet valve should have closed. A supply valve left partly shut, a clogged filter cartridge, low building pressure or a sticking inlet valve are the usual causes. Opening the valve fully and fitting a fresh filter clears the simple cases; a valve that hums without passing water is a visit.

### Harvest and freeze cycle

26 codes

A freeze ran longer than the board allows, or a harvest started and the ice never fell. Scale on the evaporator holds the sheet to the plate, a thickness probe crusted with minerals never signals, a hot gas valve that does not open leaves the plate cold, a harvest assist that does not push, or a water curtain that swings without tripping its switch all end in this family. A cleaning cycle run by the manual often clears it; a valve or a probe is a technician's job.

### Cooling system

13 codes

The board saw temperatures or pressures that the sealed system should never reach: a discharge line too hot, a suction side that never cools, or a compressor that starts and stops on its overload. A dirty condenser can push a healthy system into this family, so it is the first thing to rule out; a low charge, a leak or a tired compressor is not. On many current machines that system holds R-290, which is flammable, and only a technician opens it.

### Condenser and airflow

11 codes

The machine could not shed its heat. An air filter packed with lint, a condenser coil furred with grease and dust, a fan motor that no longer spins, a machine pushed into a hot corner without its clearance, a water-cooled condenser whose regulating valve starves it, or a remote condenser on a roof blocked by leaves all show up here. Washing the air filter and freeing the space around the machine clears many cases; a fan motor or a valve means a visit.

### Drain and pump

11 codes

Water that should have left the machine is still inside it. A gravity drain clogged with slime or scale, a line run too flat to keep up during a harvest, a drain pump whose float sticks or whose motor has stopped, or an air gap blocked at the floor sink all back water into the bin or across the floor. Checking that the drain outlet in view runs clear is a fair first step; the pump and the line inside the cabinet are a visit.

### Sensors and bin control

24 codes

A sensor is telling the board something that is not true: a bin control that reads full on an empty bin, or empty while ice spills over the top, a curtain switch stuck open, a temperature sensor out of range, or an eye on a dispenser that no longer sees the cup. Scale and slime on a probe or an ultrasonic sensor cause much of it. Clearing ice piled against the bin control is a safe first step; testing and replacing a sensor is a technician's.

### Control board and power

12 codes

The board lost track of itself or of its power: a voltage too low or too high at startup, a relay that no longer closes, a keypad or display that stays dark, or a memory error after a surge. Switching off at the machine's own switch for a minute clears a passing glitch. A code that returns, a breaker that trips, or any hot or burning smell means the power stays off and the board, the wiring and the relays are left to a technician.

## Questions about the codes.

### The code on my ice machine is not here. What now?

We write up a code only after finding it in the maker's own paperwork. Meanwhile, type the light, the number or how many times it blinks into the booking, and the technician reads it against the manual for your serial.

### Another ice machine showed the same code. Is it the same problem?

Not necessarily. Ice machine makers write separate tables, and several rewrote theirs when a new control board came out: the flash pattern for a slow freeze on one brand may flag the water or the drain on another. Read any code together with the plate on that machine.

### Can I clear an ice machine code myself?

Sometimes. Make sure the water supply valve is open, the air filter on the front is clean, the bin is not packed against the bin control and the drain is flowing, then use the reset or the off and on sequence the manual gives. A code that comes back within a day points to a part, and after a leak, a burning smell or a gas smell, skip the reset and book.

### The machine shows a light but the ice looks fine. Is a repair needed?

Maybe not. Plenty of lights people search for are status, not trouble: a clean or sanitize reminder counting hours, a bin-full light, a delay after power returns, or a standby mode someone switched on. Those pages show how to finish the cycle or switch it back with no part at all.
