--- title: "Hoshizaki 8 beeps on a DCM dispenser: gear motor circuit open" description: "What 8 beeps means on Hoshizaki 8 beeps on a DCM dispenser: gear motor circuit opens, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/hoshizaki-8-beeps/" --- # Hoshizaki 8 beeps on a DCM dispenser: gear motor circuit open In a DCM, the gear motor turns the auger that pushes cubelet ice out of the evaporator. ## What 8 beeps actually means. In a DCM, the gear motor turns the auger that pushes cubelet ice out of the evaporator. The compressor may run only when the gear motor circuit proves it is running, through the compressor control relay. If that relay does not close, the board stops the unit with eight beeps. A blown gear motor fuse or a tripped motor protector is the usual reason, and repeat trips point to a mechanical problem. Hoshizaki ice machine display What to do when 8 beeps shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Control board and power The board lost track of itself or of its power: a voltage too low or too high at startup, a relay that no longer closes, a keypad or display that stays dark, or a memory error after a surge. Switching off at the machine's own switch for a minute clears a passing glitch. A code that returns, a breaker that trips, or any hot or burning smell means the power stays off and the board, the wiring and the relays are left to a technician. ### Usually leads to Ice machine control board repair The controller, its display, the sensors it reads and their wiring, tested when a code, a blinking light or a dead machine points there. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Hoshizaki On a Hoshizaki ice machine, the technician notes every alarm signal and checks the water and condenser before pricing any part. ### Source Hoshizaki DCM-300/500/751/752 cubelet icemaker/dispenser service manual, No. 73209 (archived copy of hoshizakiamerica.com) DCM cubelet icemaker/dispensers (DCM-300, 500, 751, 752) repeat the beeps every five seconds and also light an orange ALARM LED; their beep list differs from the KM list. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Hoshizaki's own guidance for 8 beeps on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Switch the unit off and let it sit so a tripped motor protector can cool. 02 Turn it back on once; Hoshizaki gives power off and on as the reset. 03 If eight beeps return, book a visit; repeated trips point to the gear motor or auger. ### Still there? Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do Eight beeps are not a voltage alarm; those are six and seven. The KM cuber table does not use eight beeps. ## What you may notice with it. Switch the unit off and let it sit so a tripped motor protector can cool. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why does my Hoshizaki dispenser grind and then beep eight times? The gear motor is straining, and its protector trips. That points to the auger or its bearings rather than the board. ### Can I replace the gear motor fuse on my Hoshizaki dispenser? The fuse is inside the unit near live parts, so a visit is safer. Repeated blown fuses also need the cause found. ### Does 8 beeps mean my Hoshizaki dispenser compressor failed? No. It means the relay that lets the compressor start did not close, usually because the gear motor stopped. --- **[Read on the site: Hoshizaki 8 beeps on a DCM dispenser: gear motor circuit open](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/hoshizaki-8-beeps/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
