After harvest, an Elevation CIM purges the old sump water through its purge valve to the drain. If the water level does not fall within two minutes, the board shows Error 4. A purge valve clogged with scale, a blocked drain, or a drain line with no vent are the usual reasons. Ice-O-Matic does not recommend a drain pump for CIM heads. Ice-O-Matic ice machine display What to do when Error 4 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Drain and pump Water that should have left the machine is still inside it. A gravity drain clogged with slime or scale, a line run too flat to keep up during a harvest, a drain pump whose float sticks or whose motor has stopped, or an air gap blocked at the floor sink all back water into the bin or across the floor. Checking that the drain outlet in view runs clear is a fair first step; the pump and the line inside the cabinet are a visit. ### Usually leads to Ice machine drain and pump repair Gravity drains, air gaps, drain pumps and their lines, cleared or replaced when meltwater backs up into the bin or reaches the floor. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Ice-O-Matic Ice-O-Matic machines get a visit that starts at the water inlet and the distribution tube, where scale often shows up first. ### Source Ice-O-Matic Elevation Series CIM modular cuber technical service manual (5/11/26) Elevation Series CIM modular cubers. Codes show as red and yellow flash patterns on the POWER and CLEAN buttons of the push pad and the board. Boards before serial 2106 grouped some limits differently. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Ice-O-Matic's own guidance for Error 4 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check the purge drain line behind the head for kinks and see whether the floor drain is backing up. 02 Make sure the drain lines are vented and run separately, as Ice-O-Matic asks. 03 If the sump stays full, book a visit to clean or replace the purge valve. ### Still there? Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do Error 4 is not a water supply problem; that is Error 3. It does not mean the bin drain is blocked, although a shared, blocked floor drain can cause both. ## What you may notice with it. The ice machine problems Error 4 tends to arrive with. Check the purge drain line behind the head for kinks and see whether the floor drain is backing up. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Can I put a drain pump on my Ice-O-Matic CIM to fix Error 4? Ice-O-Matic advises against a drain pump on CIM heads. A proper gravity drain, vented and run separately, is the fix. ### Why is my Ice-O-Matic ice cloudy along with Error 4? When the sump does not purge, minerals stay in the water and end up in the ice. ### Is Error 4 urgent on an Ice-O-Matic? Only if water is spreading on the floor. Then stay clear, switch the breaker off from a dry panel and close the supply valve. --- **[Read on the site: Ice-O-Matic Error 4: double red and yellow flashes, sump did not purge](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/ice-o-matic-error-4/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
