An Elevation CIM harvest ends when the falling ice opens the curtain switches. If that has not happened after 7.5 minutes, the board shows Error 5. Scale on the evaporator, a curtain that does not swing, a harvest assist that does not push, or a hot gas valve that does not open are the common reasons. Ice-O-Matic ice machine display What to do when Error 5 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Harvest and freeze cycle A freeze ran longer than the board allows, or a harvest started and the ice never fell. Scale on the evaporator holds the sheet to the plate, a thickness probe crusted with minerals never signals, a hot gas valve that does not open leaves the plate cold, a harvest assist that does not push, or a water curtain that swings without tripping its switch all end in this family. A cleaning cycle run by the manual often clears it; a valve or a probe is a technician's job. ### Usually leads to Ice machine harvest repair The hot gas valve, harvest assist, curtain switch and thickness probe that decide when a sheet of cubes is done and make it drop. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Ice-O-Matic Ice-O-Matic machines get a visit that starts at the water inlet and the distribution tube, where scale often shows up first. ### Source Ice-O-Matic Elevation Series CIM modular cuber technical service manual (5/11/26) Elevation Series CIM modular cubers. Codes show as red and yellow flash patterns on the POWER and CLEAN buttons of the push pad and the board. Boards before serial 2106 grouped some limits differently. Boards before serial 2106 used a 5-minute harvest limit. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Ice-O-Matic's own guidance for Error 5 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Open the head and check that the curtains swing freely and nothing is jammed against them. 02 Plan a cleaning with a nickel-safe cleaner if the last one was more than six months ago. 03 Clear the code with POWER and CLEAN held for three seconds; if it returns, book a visit. ### Still there? Open the head and check that the curtains swing freely and nothing is jammed against them. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why must I use a nickel-safe cleaner on my Ice-O-Matic? The CIM evaporator is nickel-plated. Ice-O-Matic warns that the wrong cleaner can strip the plating, which then makes the ice cling and harvest slowly. ### Can a stuck curtain cause Error 5 on an Ice-O-Matic? Yes. The harvest ends when the curtain opens, so a curtain that cannot swing looks like ice that never fell. ### Does Error 5 mean the same on older Ice-O-Matic boards? The meaning is the same, but boards before serial 2106 used a 5-minute limit rather than 7.5. --- **[Read on the site: Ice-O-Matic Error 5: double red flash, harvest over 7.5 minutes](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/ice-o-matic-error-5/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
