--- title: "KoolAire SL#2 light: service limit 2, ice slow to release" description: "What SL#2 means on KoolAire SL#2 light: service limit 2, ice slow to releases, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/koolaire-sl2/" --- # KoolAire SL#2 light: service limit 2, ice slow to release On a KoolAire head the harvest ends when the sheet of cubes falls and swings the water curtain, whose magnet the bin switch reads. ## What SL#2 actually means. On a KoolAire head the harvest ends when the sheet of cubes falls and swings the water curtain, whose magnet the bin switch reads. If the ice clings to the plate, the board gives up at the cap and returns to freezing. Three such harvests make SL#2 flash; the head keeps working until the stop count for its board software is reached, and then stops with SL#2 lit steadily. Koolaire ice machine display What to do when SL#2 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Harvest and freeze cycle A freeze ran longer than the board allows, or a harvest started and the ice never fell. Scale on the evaporator holds the sheet to the plate, a thickness probe crusted with minerals never signals, a hot gas valve that does not open leaves the plate cold, a harvest assist that does not push, or a water curtain that swings without tripping its switch all end in this family. A cleaning cycle run by the manual often clears it; a valve or a probe is a technician's job. ### Usually leads to Ice machine harvest repair The hot gas valve, harvest assist, curtain switch and thickness probe that decide when a sheet of cubes is done and make it drop. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Koolaire KoolAire ice machine service begins with a look at the air filter, the condenser fins and the water trough. ### Source KoolAire K, KP and KT modular ice machines technician's handbook (Part Number 000018624 Rev 00) KoolAire K, KP and KT Kube heads with the toggle-switch control board. Boards with software revision 3.2 and later cap the freeze at 35 minutes and the harvest at 7 minutes; earlier boards use 60 and 3.5 minutes. The handbook gives three 7-minute harvests as the stop point on revision 3.2 boards and 100 harvests of 3.5 minutes on earlier boards. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Koolaire's own guidance for SL#2 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Cycle the toggle switch OFF and back to ICE, then confirm that only SL#2 flashes. 02 Open the door and check the water curtain is fitted, its magnet is attached, and no cubes are wedged against it. 03 If the slab still hangs on the plate on the next harvest, book a visit. ### Still there? It usually turns into [ice machine harvest repair](https://icemachinerepair.center/services/ice-machine-harvest-repair/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do SL#2 does not mean the freeze is slow; that is SL#1. Both lights flashing together is service limit 3, which is about water, not harvest. ## What you may notice with it. The ice machine problems SL#2 tends to arrive with. Cycle the toggle switch OFF and back to ICE, then confirm that only SL#2 flashes. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Can a missing curtain magnet cause SL#2 on a KoolAire? Yes. KoolAire's own flow chart asks whether the curtain magnet is attached, because without it the board never sees the harvest end. ### Why does my KoolAire keep making ice with SL#2 flashing? Flashing is the warning stage. The head keeps running until it reaches the stop count for its board software, and production drops meanwhile, so it is worth fixing early. ### Does SL#2 on a KoolAire mean the hot gas valve failed? It is one possibility, along with scale on the plate and a head out of level. A technician tells them apart by watching a harvest. --- **[Read on the site: KoolAire SL#2 light: service limit 2, ice slow to release](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/koolaire-sl2/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
