Indigo boards watch the temperature of the liquid line. On an air-cooled head a high reading usually means blocked airflow: a clogged filter, a dirty coil, a failed fan or hot air recirculating from a wall. On a water-cooled head it points to low condenser water flow or a regulating valve set wrong. Manitowoc ice machine display What to do when E04 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Condenser and airflow The machine could not shed its heat. An air filter packed with lint, a condenser coil furred with grease and dust, a fan motor that no longer spins, a machine pushed into a hot corner without its clearance, a water-cooled condenser whose regulating valve starves it, or a remote condenser on a roof blocked by leaves all show up here. Washing the air filter and freeing the space around the machine clears many cases; a fan motor or a valve means a visit. ### Usually leads to Ice machine condenser and fan repair Air-cooled coils, fan motors and filters, water-cooled regulating valves and rooftop remote condensers, cleaned or repaired so the ice machine can shed its heat. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Manitowoc With a Manitowoc ice machine, the technician notes what the controls report and checks the bin control before opening the cycle for testing. ### Source Manitowoc Indigo Series air, water and remote condenser ice machines technician's handbook (Part Number 000014794) Indigo E-board and G-board heads; the display text reads Hi Cnd Temp or Wtr Cnd, and G-board firmware 4.017 alerts only after 10 trips in a row. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Manitowoc's own guidance for E04 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Clean the washable air filter in front of the condenser if your model has one, and clear boxes or bags away from the grille. 02 Make sure hot exhaust from nearby equipment is not blowing into the head's air intake. 03 On a water-cooled head, confirm the water supply valve to the condenser is fully open. 04 If E04 returns after the filter and airflow are clear, book a visit for the fan, the coil and the water regulating valve. ### Still there? It usually turns into [ice machine condenser and fan repair](https://icemachinerepair.center/services/ice-machine-condenser-and-fan-repair/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do E04 is not the high pressure switch opening; that is E05, although both often share a dirty condenser as the cause. It also does not report a sealed-system leak by itself. ## What you may notice with it. The ice machine problems E04 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the ice machine before anyone is booked. Clean the washable air filter in front of the condenser if your model has one, and clear boxes or bags away from the grille. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### How often should the condenser be cleaned on a Manitowoc air-cooled head? Manitowoc ties condenser care to its six-month maintenance and says a dirty condenser cuts capacity. A kitchen with grease or flour in the air may need the filter cleaned far more often. ### Can E04 show up on a Manitowoc with a remote condenser? The E04 definition covers self-contained air- and water-cooled heads. Remote systems have their own condensing-unit entry, so a rooftop problem reads differently. ### Is it safe to keep using ice while E04 is showing? The ice is not affected by the temperature reading itself. Production will be slow, and a head that keeps overheating wears its compressor, so book a visit if cleaning the filter does not clear it. --- **[Read on the site: Manitowoc E04: condenser running too hot](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/manitowoc-e04/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
