After the compressor starts, an Indigo board expects the discharge line to warm and the evaporator to cool by at least ten degrees before the freeze is two minutes old. If neither moves enough, it logs E11. A compressor that is not really pumping, a contactor that did not pull in, a sealed system short of charge, or a valve stuck open are the kinds of problems behind it. Manitowoc ice machine display What to do when E11 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Cooling system The board saw temperatures or pressures that the sealed system should never reach: a discharge line too hot, a suction side that never cools, or a compressor that starts and stops on its overload. A dirty condenser can push a healthy system into this family, so it is the first thing to rule out; a low charge, a leak or a tired compressor is not. On many current machines that system holds R-290, which is flammable, and only a technician opens it. ### Usually leads to Ice machine compressor and sealed system repair The compressor, its start parts and the sealed system, including machines on flammable R-290, tested for pressure and leaks and repaired by the maker's procedure. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Manitowoc With a Manitowoc ice machine, the technician notes what the controls report and checks the bin control before opening the cycle for testing. ### Source Manitowoc Indigo Series air, water and remote condenser ice machines technician's handbook (Part Number 000014794) Air- and water-cooled Indigo heads only; on G-board firmware 4.017 and later it is Event Log only, with no alert. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Manitowoc's own guidance for E11 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check that the head is on its correct circuit and that the breaker has not tripped. 02 Restart the head once with the On/Off button and listen for the compressor starting. 03 If E11 repeats, leave the head off and book a visit; the next checks are on the sealed system and its electrical parts. ### Still there? It usually turns into [ice machine compressor and sealed system repair](https://icemachinerepair.center/services/ice-machine-compressor-and-sealed-system-repair/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do E11 is not a sensor reading out of limits; those are E21 to E24. A water problem that keeps the plate from freezing is logged as E20 instead. ## What you may notice with it. The ice machine problems E11 tends to arrive with. Check that the head is on its correct circuit and that the breaker has not tripped. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### My Manitowoc logged E11 and the water runs but nothing freezes. What now? That is exactly the picture E11 describes: the pump circulates but the plate never gets cold. Turn the head off and book a visit, because the next checks are on the compressor and its charge. ### Could E11 on a Manitowoc be a refrigerant leak? A low charge is one possible cause. On R290 models a leak is also a safety matter: if you smell gas or hear a hiss, leave the room, open doors and keep switches and flames away. ### Does E11 happen on every Manitowoc model? The Indigo table limits it to air- and water-cooled heads. Remote and QuietQube systems report their outdoor units under other numbers. --- **[Read on the site: Manitowoc E11: the cooling system did not respond at start-up](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/manitowoc-e11/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
