--- title: "Manitowoc E19: ice thickness probe signal lost" description: "What E19 means on Manitowoc E19: ice thickness probe signal losts, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/manitowoc-e19/" --- # Manitowoc E19: ice thickness probe signal lost The Indigo ice thickness probe tells the board when the sheet of ice is thick enough to harvest. ## What E19 actually means. The Indigo ice thickness probe tells the board when the sheet of ice is thick enough to harvest. If its signal drops outside the expected band, because the probe is unplugged, scaled over or damaged, the board logs E19. With five good cycles of history it keeps the head running in safe mode for up to 72 hours. Manitowoc ice machine display What to do when E19 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Sensors and bin control A sensor is telling the board something that is not true: a bin control that reads full on an empty bin, or empty while ice spills over the top, a curtain switch stuck open, a temperature sensor out of range, or an eye on a dispenser that no longer sees the cup. Scale and slime on a probe or an ultrasonic sensor cause much of it. Clearing ice piled against the bin control is a safe first step; testing and replacing a sensor is a technician's. ### Usually leads to Ice machine bin control repair The thermostat bulb, paddle, curtain switch or electronic eye that senses a full bin, adjusted or replaced so the machine stops and restarts on time. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Manitowoc With a Manitowoc ice machine, the technician notes what the controls report and checks the bin control before opening the cycle for testing. ### Source Manitowoc Indigo Series air, water and remote condenser ice machines technician's handbook (Part Number 000014794) Indigo heads; on G-board firmware 4.017 and later it is Event Log only, and the machine relies on safe mode. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Manitowoc's own guidance for E19 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check the display for a safe mode alert; the head may still be making ice on timed cycles. 02 Plan a de-scale and sanitize, since scale on the probe is a common reason it misreads. 03 Book a visit before the 72 hours run out, so the probe can be cleaned, adjusted or replaced. ### Still there? It usually turns into [ice machine bin control repair](https://icemachinerepair.center/services/ice-machine-bin-control-repair/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do E19 is not a water level problem, which the board logs as E20. It also does not mean the freeze is slow; a probe that reads but calls too late produces E01. ## What you may notice with it. The ice machine problems E19 tends to arrive with. Check the display for a safe mode alert; the head may still be making ice on timed cycles. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### My Manitowoc still makes ice after E19. Is it fixed? Not yet. Safe mode runs the head on the times it learned from recent cycles, and after 72 hours it goes to standby. Use that window to get the probe looked at. ### Can dirty water cause E19 on a Manitowoc? Scale and slime on the probe change what it senses, and the manual names a dirty probe among the reasons a head will not harvest. Cleaning often helps. ### Why are my Manitowoc cubes thin after an E19 entry? Without the probe, cycle length is estimated, so the cubes can come out thinner or thicker than usual until the probe works again. --- **[Read on the site: Manitowoc E19: ice thickness probe signal lost](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/manitowoc-e19/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
