--- title: "Manitowoc SL2 light: safety limit 2, harvest time too long" description: "What SL2 means on Manitowoc SL2 light: safety limit 2, harvest time too longs, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/manitowoc-sl2/" --- # Manitowoc SL2 light: safety limit 2, harvest time too long Safety limit 2 counts harvests that reached 3.5 minutes without the ice opening the curtain. ## What SL2 actually means. Safety limit 2 counts harvests that reached 3.5 minutes without the ice opening the curtain. On Indigo boards the SL2 light flashes and the head keeps working through hundreds of these before stopping. On Q210 and Q270 undercounters, three long harvests trigger the limit and the harvest light flashes twice after the toggle switch is cycled; that limit has to be reset by hand. Manitowoc ice machine display What to do when SL2 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Harvest and freeze cycle A freeze ran longer than the board allows, or a harvest started and the ice never fell. Scale on the evaporator holds the sheet to the plate, a thickness probe crusted with minerals never signals, a hot gas valve that does not open leaves the plate cold, a harvest assist that does not push, or a water curtain that swings without tripping its switch all end in this family. A cleaning cycle run by the manual often clears it; a valve or a probe is a technician's job. ### Usually leads to Ice machine harvest repair The hot gas valve, harvest assist, curtain switch and thickness probe that decide when a sheet of cubes is done and make it drop. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Manitowoc With a Manitowoc ice machine, the technician notes what the controls report and checks the bin control before opening the cycle for testing. ### Source Manitowoc Indigo ice machines installation, operation and maintenance manual (Part Number 000013325 Rev 02) Indigo boards (SL2 light, stop after 500 long harvests on firmware 5.009 and earlier) and Q210/Q270 undercounters (manual reset after three). ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Manitowoc's own guidance for SL2 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Cycle the toggle switch Off and On, and count two flashes of the harvest light to confirm limit 2. 02 Look for cubes jammed against the curtain and make sure the head is level. 03 If the ice still hangs on the plate after a restart, book a visit for the hot gas valve and the plate. ### Still there? Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do SL2 is not a slow freeze; one flash, SL1, is. It also does not mean the bin is full, which on these heads shows as the bin switch light. ## What you may notice with it. The ice machine problems SL2 tends to arrive with. Cycle the toggle switch Off and On, and count two flashes of the harvest light to confirm limit 2. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why does my Manitowoc undercounter need a manual restart after SL2? The Q-series treats a long harvest more strictly than a long freeze: after three it stops for good until someone restarts it. ### Can scale cause SL2 on a Manitowoc? Yes. A scaled plate grips the slab, so harvests run long. Manitowoc lists a dirty machine first under slow harvest. ### Is SL2 the same as E02 on a Manitowoc? They are the same long-harvest event. SL2 is the light on the board, and E02 is the entry an Indigo head keeps in its log. --- **[Read on the site: Manitowoc SL2 light: safety limit 2, harvest time too long](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/manitowoc-sl2/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
