--- title: "Scotsman code 8: short freeze, ice too thin" description: "What 8 means on Scotsman code 8: short freeze, ice too thins, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/scotsman-8/" --- # Scotsman code 8: short freeze, ice too thin The ELITE controller expects a freeze of at least six minutes. ## What 8 actually means. The ELITE controller expects a freeze of at least six minutes. If the ice thickness sensor calls for harvest within 20 seconds of that minimum, the controller runs a timed harvest and counts it; a blinking 8 is the retry, a steady 8 the shutdown after it happens again within three cycles. Scotsman lists irregular water flow, an ice bridge set too thin, and a shorted wire or sensor as causes. Scotsman ice machine display What to do when 8 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Harvest and freeze cycle A freeze ran longer than the board allows, or a harvest started and the ice never fell. Scale on the evaporator holds the sheet to the plate, a thickness probe crusted with minerals never signals, a hot gas valve that does not open leaves the plate cold, a harvest assist that does not push, or a water curtain that swings without tripping its switch all end in this family. A cleaning cycle run by the manual often clears it; a valve or a probe is a technician's job. ### Usually leads to Ice machine harvest repair The hot gas valve, harvest assist, curtain switch and thickness probe that decide when a sheet of cubes is done and make it drop. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Scotsman A Scotsman visit sorts out which kind of ice the machine makes, because each kind follows a different service path. ### Source Scotsman Prodigy ELITE modular cuber service manual, MC0322 through MC2148 (January 2022) Prodigy and Prodigy ELITE cubers (MC and C models) show one character in the code display next to the lights. ELITE minimum freeze: 6 minutes. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Scotsman's own guidance for 8 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Look at the last batch: thin, hollow or partial cubes support the code. 02 Check that the water supply is steady and the filter is not clogged. 03 Book a visit to check the ice thickness sensor and its bridge setting. ### Still there? Look at the last batch: thin, hollow or partial cubes support the code. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why are my Scotsman cubes thin and the display shows 8? The thickness sensor is calling for harvest too early. Uneven water flow or a bridge setting that is too thin are the reasons Scotsman lists. ### Can I adjust the ice thickness on my Scotsman? Bridge thickness is set at the ice thickness sensor during service. Scotsman notes that a wrong bridge can cause long harvests and even a short-freeze shutdown, so leave it to a visit. ### Does code 8 appear on Scotsman nugget machines? No. Code 8 is on the cuber list only; the CM3 nugget and flake list ends at 4. --- **[Read on the site: Scotsman code 8: short freeze, ice too thin](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/scotsman-8/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
