--- title: "Viking Er01: the nugget ice machine evaporator is not getting cold" description: "What Er01 means on Viking Er01: the nugget ice machine evaporator is not getting colds, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/viking-er01/" --- # Viking Er01: the nugget ice machine evaporator is not getting cold The evaporator is where the nugget ice forms, and after half an hour of running it should be well below freezing. ## What Er01 actually means. The evaporator is where the nugget ice forms, and after half an hour of running it should be well below freezing. If it still reads 32°F or warmer, the control stops and blinks every lamp; Viking's own list starts with a possible refrigerant leak and then the sensor and its mounting. Viking ice machine display · also shown as ICE, NO WATER and DRAIN lamps blinking, Evaporator temperature What to do when Er01 shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Cooling system The board saw temperatures or pressures that the sealed system should never reach: a discharge line too hot, a suction side that never cools, or a compressor that starts and stops on its overload. A dirty condenser can push a healthy system into this family, so it is the first thing to rule out; a low charge, a leak or a tired compressor is not. On many current machines that system holds R-290, which is flammable, and only a technician opens it. ### Usually leads to Ice machine compressor and sealed system repair The compressor, its start parts and the sealed system, including machines on flammable R-290, tested for pressure and leaks and repaired by the maker's procedure. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Viking A Viking ice machine call covers the panel-ready install, the drain and the water side before the cooling system is looked at. ### Source Viking FNIU515D nugget ice machine Install / Use & Care manual Viking FNIU515D nugget ice machine on R600a (isobutane). ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Viking's own guidance for Er01 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check that the front grille is clear and that the room is not unusually hot, since both slow the cooling. 02 Turn the machine off and leave it off; restarting it repeatedly will not fix a cooling problem. 03 Book a visit: the sealed system on this model holds R600a, a flammable refrigerant, and is checked only by a technician. ### Still there? Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do Er01 is not the same as all three lamps lit steady, which is Er25, an evaporator that got too cold. It is also different from Er03, which blinks the Ice lamp alone after 10 minutes. ## What you may notice with it. The ice machine problems Er01 tends to arrive with. Check that the front grille is clear and that the room is not unusually hot, since both slow the cooling. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Does Viking Er01 always mean a refrigerant leak? No. Viking lists a leak first, but a failed evaporator sensor or one that has come loose from its mounting produces the same signal. ### My Viking shows Er01 and I smell something odd near it. What should I do? This model uses a flammable refrigerant. Do not switch lights or appliances on or off nearby, open windows, leave the room, and call 911 if the smell is strong. ### Can a dirty condenser cause Viking Er01? Poor airflow slows cooling, so a clogged condenser can contribute. Viking asks for the condenser to be brushed or vacuumed 2 to 3 times a year. --- **[Read on the site: Viking Er01: the nugget ice machine evaporator is not getting cold](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/viking-er01/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
