Whirlpool gives the light two jobs. Lit after long use, it is a change reminder. Flashing right after a change, it says the cartridge is not locked in, and Whirlpool states that an unlocked filter means no ice at all; a cracked cartridge or a missing O-ring gives low output or small cubes. Whirlpool ice machine display · also shown as Replace Filter flashing, Filter light What to do when Replace Filter shows on the ice machine ### Kind of code Water supply The water side came up short: the trough did not fill in the time allowed, the float or level probe never saw water, or water kept flowing when the inlet valve should have closed. A supply valve left partly shut, a clogged filter cartridge, low building pressure or a sticking inlet valve are the usual causes. Opening the valve fully and fitting a fresh filter clears the simple cases; a valve that hums without passing water is a visit. ### Usually leads to Ice machine water valve and filter repair The inlet valve, filter, sump float or level probe and supply line, tested and replaced when water arrives short, dirty or nonstop. ### Shows up as Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You An ice machine error code may show as a number on a small display, a pattern of blinking lights on the control board, a colored light on the front, or a machine that stops with one indicator flashing. ### Make Whirlpool Whirlpool ice machine visits start with the simple checks an owner can confirm, then move to the drain, the water valve and the cycle. ### Source Whirlpool Product Help: Filter Light Blinking - Freestanding Ice Maker Whirlpool 15-inch clear-ice machines with a filter housing next to the controls, per Whirlpool's help articles for freestanding ice makers. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Whirlpool's own guidance for Replace Filter on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Take the filter out, look for cracks, and check that both O-rings are in place; replace the cartridge if either is damaged. 02 Reinsert it and turn it fully until it locks. 03 Restart the machine; if the filter light still stays on or keeps flashing, book a visit. ### Still there? Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do A flashing filter light is not a failed water valve, even though both can leave the machine without ice. Take the filter out, look for cracks, and check that both O-rings are in place; replace the cartridge if either is damaged. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why won't my Whirlpool ice machine make ice with a brand-new filter? Whirlpool says an unlocked filter stops production. Turn the cartridge until it locks and watch whether the flashing stops. ### Can a clogged filter make my Whirlpool ice machine slow? Yes. Whirlpool notes a clogged filter lowers the water pressure, and hard water can use a filter up before the light's 9 months or 2,000 gallons. ### What if the Whirlpool filter light will not go out after a new filter? Restart the machine once. Whirlpool says a filter light that stays on after a restart needs a service visit. --- **[Read on the site: Whirlpool Replace Filter: a worn-out or badly seated ice machine filter](https://icemachinerepair.center/error-codes/whirlpool-replace-filter/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
