Houston's ice machines work through a hot, sticky season that fills most of the calendar, from Medical Center clinics and Energy Corridor offices to restaurants and home bars. Air-cooled condensers need regular cleaning to keep output up, humidity speeds slime in the bins, and hurricane outages such as the long one after Beryl in 2024 leave ice to melt and refreeze and boards to face the surge when power returns. ## What Houston does to an ice machine. On average, 95 days a year in Houston's records reach 90 degrees or more, and 2011 set the high count at 142. Even overnight relief can fail: the city's warmest recorded minimum is 84 degrees, set September 1, 2020. CenterPoint Energy was created in 2003, when Texas deregulated its electricity market and the former Houston Lighting & Power was split into several companies. Ike's landfall in September 2008 left 2.1 million accounts dark on a CenterPoint system that served 2.26 million. The counties ### Family houses Family houses in the suburbs often place an undercounter ice machine in a game room or a basement bar far from the kitchen sink, and its drain runs to a pump or a laundry standpipe, which is where a slow drain is usually found. ### Newer developments Homeowners' association clubhouses in planned communities keep an ice machine for the pool and for events, and one that runs through a busy summer without cleaning shows slime by the fall, so a seasonal cleaning is booked through the association. ### Ice for pool decks and patios An outdoor-rated ice machine under a patio bar runs in the full heat of the afternoon, and its air-cooled condenser pulls in dust and grass clippings all summer, so cleaning the condenser filter is often what brings its output back. ### A second ice machine Restaurants and bars that add a second ice machine for a patio or a banquet room often hang it on the same drain as the first, and two machines harvesting into one undersized line can back water up into the bin of whichever sits lower. ## The work, in Houston. Ten ice machine repairs, cheapest first, each with what Houston changes about it. [What we do](https://icemachinerepair.center/services/) ### Ice machine diagnostic visit Houston heat pushes an air-cooled ice machine hard for most of the year, so a diagnostic visit to a bar, a clinic or an office pantry records the room and condenser temperatures first, then the cycle times, before blaming the sealed system or any part. ### Ice machine cleaning and sanitizing Houston's long, humid summers speed the growth of slime and mold on an ice machine's evaporator and inside its bin, so offices, clinics and restaurants here often book cleaning and sanitizing on a shorter interval than a machine in a drier city would need. ### Ice machine water valve and filter repair Houston's storms and flooding can disturb the water mains, and after a boil-water notice an ice machine's filter is replaced and the machine cleaned and sanitized before its ice is used; a valve that sticks after the outage is tested on the same visit. ### Ice machine harvest repair Houston heat slows the harvest of an air-cooled ice machine whose condenser is already fighting the room, so the visit separates a true harvest problem, a hot gas valve or a harvest motor, from a machine that simply needs more air around it. ### Ice machine condenser and fan repair Houston's heat makes a clean condenser the cheapest way to keep an ice machine's output up, so bars, clinics and offices here book a condenser and fan service before summer, when a fan that squeals or stalls costs the most ice. ### Ice machine drain and pump repair Houston's clay soil shifts slabs over the years, and an ice machine's gravity drain that once ran downhill may now sag and hold water; the visit checks the slope from the bin to the drain and reroutes a line that no longer empties. ### Ice machine bin control repair A Houston clinic or office with an ice dispenser relies on the bin control to halt the machine when storage is full, and a stuck sensor lets ice pile up until the dispenser jams; the visit tests and adjusts the control. ### Ice dispenser mechanism repair Houston hospitals and clinics rely on ice dispensers for patients and staff, so a stalled dispensing mechanism is handled quickly; the visit checks the motor and the agitator and sanitizes the ice path at the same time. ### Ice machine control board repair When a hurricane or a summer storm leaves Houston without power for days, the surge that ends the outage may take an ice machine's board with it; the visit confirms the board failed rather than a fuse, a transformer or a sensor. ### Ice machine compressor and sealed system repair Houston's long cooling season wears compressors faster, and after a hurricane outage a machine restarted on a sagging generator may struggle to start; the visit tests the windings and start parts and says plainly whether repair or replacement makes more sense. ## The ice machines we see most here.
