Montague Street's restaurants and bars keep ice machines in narrow back rooms, and a brownstone with a home bar may have an undercounter unit whose water line runs through old walls to a shutoff far from the machine. ## What Brooklyn Heights does to an ice machine. In 1965 Brooklyn Heights became the first historic district designated by New York City's Landmarks Preservation Commission. Large hotels went up in the neighborhood from the 1880s into the late 1920s, among them the St. George in 1885, the Bossert in 1909 and the Pierrepont in 1928. Five days after Sandy hit, Con Edison's November 3 tally still showed 31,448 Brooklyn accounts without electricity. Summer highs at Central Park average 82.6°F under the 1991 to 2020 normals.
