The Village's landmark district spans over 50 blocks in its north and west, running as far as 14th Street. ## What Greenwich Village does to an ice machine. Much of the neighborhood west of Greenwich Street was built on landfill, since that street once ran along the Hudson River shoreline. July 1993 brought Central Park 20 days of 90°F or hotter, the most in any month on record there. In the blackout of July 13 and 14, 1977, lightning strikes on substations left all of New York City except the Rockaways without power overnight. [All of New York Metro](https://icemachinerepair.center/locations/new-york/) ### Older housing stock Older wiring may put an ice machine's compressor on a circuit shared with other bar equipment, and a breaker that trips each time the harvest starts is left off and reported rather than reset again and again; at a burning smell, switch the breaker off. ### Small cafes and back bars Behind a narrow bar the undercounter ice machine is boxed in by coolers and a sink, and an air-cooled unit forced to breathe its own warm exhaust runs long cycles and drops thin cubes, so the clearance at its front grille is checked before the sealed system. ### Home bars with clear ice Kitchen designers often place the clear-ice machine far from any floor drain, which means a drain pump hidden in the cabinet, and the pump's check valve and vent line are the first stop when water collects under a spotless island. ## A visit in Greenwich Village.
