Key Biscayne's beach clubs, hotels and seasonal houses run ice machines within reach of salt spray, and a machine in a house left empty through the summer is cleaned and sanitized before the owners come back. ## What Key Biscayne does to an ice machine. Home building on a large scale reached the island only after the 4-mile Rickenbacker Causeway from Miami opened in 1947. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Cape Florida station put the average August high at 91.4 °F. Hurricane Irma's winds gusted to 99 mph at Key Biscayne in 2017. Its 1991 incorporation made Key Biscayne the first new municipality Miami-Dade had seen in over 50 years. [All of Miami / South Florida](https://icemachinerepair.center/locations/south-florida/) ### On the water After a hurricane the power may stay off for days, and ice in a bin that sat warm and then refroze is thrown out, the bin washed and sanitized, and the machine checked for storm water in its base before it makes ice for drinks again. ### Seasonal houses Owners closing a house for the season are best served by a machine that has been switched off, drained and left with its door propped open, since a sealed bin in a humid, empty house is exactly where mold takes hold. ### Tower living Building rules usually send an ice machine's drain to a floor sink or a standpipe through a long run of pipe, so a slow drain in a tower is found by following that line and its air gap, not by pulling the machine out of its opening. ## A visit in Key Biscayne.
