An ice machine diagnostic visit begins with the ice itself. The technician asks what changed and when, looks at the cubes or nuggets in the bin for size, clarity and shape, and notes how full the bin is. Then the machine is watched through at least one freeze and one harvest: how long the plate takes to build a full sheet, whether the water curtain swings and the thickness probe calls the harvest, whether the slab drops cleanly, and whether the bin control stops production when it should. The water side comes next, with the supply shutoff, the filter's date, the inlet valve and the sump level, followed by the condenser with its fan or its water valve, and the drain from the bin to the floor drain and its air gap. Most current controllers keep a history of codes and cycle times, and reading it saves guesswork. Only with the power off at the disconnect are panels opened to measure the pump, the valves, the board and the compressor's electrical parts. By the end of the visit the failed part has a name, the repair has a description and the job has a figure. How the visit goes ### What it costs An ice machine is priced once it has frozen, harvested and been tested inside These steps compare ice machine jobs with one another; they are not a quote for your machine. ### Answers 6 problems Ice Machine Running but Not Making Ice Ice Machine Making Too Little Ice for the Rush · Ice Machine Leaking Water Across the Floor or Under the Bin · Ice Machine Not Harvesting: Ice Stays Stuck on the Plate · Burning or Hot Electrical Smell From an Ice Machine · Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You ### Comes up most on Modular ice machine Undercounter ice machine · Nugget ice machine · Ice and water dispenser ## Ice machine diagnostic visit, step by step. Name the part that stopped the ice with its price, say plainly whether this machine is worth it, and leave it making ice if the fix is on the truck. 01 Hear what the ice machine does and since when, and look at the ice in the bin for size, clarity and quantity. 02 Watch at least one freeze and one harvest, timing the cycle and checking the curtain, the thickness probe and the slab's release. 03 Check the supply, the filter, the inlet valve and the sump, then the condenser with its fan or water valve, then the drain and its air gap. 04 Read the controller's code history and, with the power off at the disconnect, open the panels to test the pump, the valves, the board and the compressor's start parts. 05 Name the part that stopped the ice with its price, say plainly whether this machine is worth it, and leave it making ice if the fix is on the truck. ## The problems it answers. 6 of them, from ice machine running but not making ice to ice machine error code or flashing light: what it is telling you. [All problems](https://icemachinerepair.center/problems/) Most common ### Ice Machine Running but Not Making Ice 6 causes, cheapest first Before you call ### Tell us this when you book 1. Which kind it is: a head on a bin or a dispenser, an undercounter unit, a nugget machine, or a countertop ice and water dispenser 2. What it does now: no ice, little ice, small or cloudy cubes, a leak, water that never stops running, a noise, a smell, or a code 3. The code or blinking light on the controller, and whether a cleaning, a new filter or a power outage came just before 4. The maker, model and serial number from the data plate, usually on the back or visible through the bin door It also answers - [**Ice Machine Making Too Little Ice for the Rush** 6 causes](https://icemachinerepair.center/problems/ice-machine-making-little-ice/) - [**Ice Machine Leaking Water Across the Floor or Under the Bin** 6 causes · clear the area first](https://icemachinerepair.center/problems/ice-machine-leaking-water/) - [**Ice Machine Not Harvesting: Ice Stays Stuck on the Plate** 6 causes](https://icemachinerepair.center/problems/ice-machine-not-harvesting/) - [**Burning or Hot Electrical Smell From an Ice Machine** 6 causes · clear the area first](https://icemachinerepair.center/problems/ice-machine-burning-smell/) - [**Ice Machine Error Code or Flashing Light: What It Is Telling You** 7 causes](https://icemachinerepair.center/problems/ice-machine-error-code/) ## A price before any work. These steps compare ice machine jobs with one another; they are not a quote for your machine. A head that makes little ice could have scale on its plate, a clogged condenser, a slow inlet valve, a sticking hot gas valve or a compressor losing its strength, and no one can tell those apart over the phone. The machine is run through a freeze and a harvest, its code history read and its parts measured with the power off before any figure is given. The price comes before any tool touches the repair, and going ahead is your call alone. Leave it as it is if you can. How much ice there is, what it looks like and whether water is pooling under it all point toward the cause. If the ice is needed for service, scoop what you need from the top and leave the rest. ### Is my ice machine worth repairing, or is it time for a new one? Most calls end in a modest part: a valve, a probe, a pump, a fan motor or a proper cleaning. The costly cases are a compressor or an evaporator, and even then the bin, the plumbing, the drain and the circuit are already in place for the machine you have. The visit gives you a real figure to weigh. ### What should be ready when the ice machine technician arrives? Water and power left on unless the machine is leaking toward an outlet, the space in front of and above it cleared, the model plate reachable, and, for a remote-cooled machine, a way onto the roof or to the wall where the condenser sits. ### Is the visit fee credited toward the repair? Ask about it when you book, since the terms are set then. No part is ordered or fitted until you have heard the repair figure in person, in front of the machine, and agreed to it. --- **[Read on the site: Ice Machine Diagnostic Visit | IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/services/diagnostic-visit/)** **[Book a visit with IceMachineRepair.center](https://icemachinerepair.center/schedule/)**
