What REPLACE FILTER
actually means.

The UC-15I counts ice-making cycles, and after 8,000 it lights REPLACE FILTER in red. The reminder is a count, not a test of the filter; Sub-Zero also wants the filter changed every six months, after a long shutdown or when cubes turn hollow, whichever comes first.

What to do when REPLACE FILTER shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Sub-Zero's own guidance for REPLACE FILTER on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the machine off with POWER and remove the ice from the bin.

02

Remove the old cartridge with a quarter turn to the left, seat the new one with a quarter turn to the right, then run the short on-off sequence from the guide.

03

Touch and hold CLEAN for six seconds to clear the light; if it will not clear, book a visit.

Cleared?

The light or code is gone, and the machine fills, freezes and drops a full batch of cubes into the bin with no new part. If it returns within a week, or the clean light comes back straight after a cleaning cycle, mention that in the booking.

What not to do

REPLACE FILTER does not stop the machine; it keeps making ice while the light is on. Low ice with the light off can still be a clogged filter, since the count does not measure how dirty it is.

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Nothing is broken; the control is reporting a state someone chose or a routine it runs: a clean or sanitize reminder counting the hours since the last cycle, a delay of a few minutes after power returns before the pump and compressor start, a bin-full light while the bin control is satisfied, or a standby or off mode someone chose at the keypad. No part is needed; finishing the cycle the light asks for, waiting out the delay or the key sequence from the manual ends it.

In Sub-Zero's own words

When the unit completes 8000 ice making cycles, “REPLACE FILTER” will illuminate red to indicate the water filter needs to be replaced.

Questions
about REPLACE FILTER.

Can I clear REPLACE FILTER myself?
Turn the machine off with POWER and remove the ice from the bin.
Do I need to shut off the water to change the filter on my Sub-Zero ice machine?
No. With the cartridge out, the UC-15I routes water around the filter housing, so the valve can stay open.
Can I use a non-Sub-Zero filter?
Sub-Zero says third-party filters have not been tested with its ice machines and may lead to poor performance, so we fit the maker's filter.
Why is REPLACE FILTER on when I changed the filter recently?
The light counts cycles and must be cleared by hand. Hold CLEAN for six seconds after every change.

Still showing REPLACE FILTER?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
