What is particular
to Sub-Zero.

We service the UC-15I and UC-15IP indoor and outdoor ice machines and the Designer DEU1550I and DEU1550IP. The UC-15I family speaks through three lit words, ICE, CLEAN and REPLACE FILTER, which is where most visits start.

A shut-off that looks like a breakdown

If two back-to-back cycles both hit the maximum length, or roughly 120 cycles pass without the bin filling, the UC-15I shuts down and flashes its blue ICE light. Sub-Zero's own first checks are the water supply and the filter, and those often bring it back without a part.

The bin is not cooled

Sub-Zero points out that the UC-15I bin is not refrigerated, so stored ice slowly melts and is replaced. Ice that disappears fast in a hot or sunny spot is the design at work, not a cooling problem.

Freeze time you can add

Cube weight on the UC-15I is set by adding freeze time from the control panel, one minute per step, up to five extra minutes. Shallow or light cubes are checked against this setting before any part is suspected.

Its own cleaner, twice a year

Sub-Zero asks for the water system to be cleaned and sanitized every six months with only its own cleaner and sanitizer, and for the condenser behind the kickplate to be brushed on the same schedule. The Designer model adds a floor light that shows while cleaning is in progress.

Parts

Sub-Zero sells its ice machine filter, cleaner and sanitizer directly, and larger parts are chosen by the numbers on the rating plate. The Designer model is new, so its parts are ordered only once the model plate has been read.

Repair or replace

A water valve, pump, filter head or bin thermostat is an ordinary repair on a Sub-Zero ice machine that still freezes well. Sub-Zero covers its sealed system for longer than most parts, so the age of the machine and that coverage are worth checking before a compressor repair is priced.

Why is the blue ICE light flashing on my Sub-Zero ice machine?
It is the automatic shut-off. Check that the water is on, give the machine an hour after restoring water, and try it with the filter removed; if it still makes no ice, book a visit.
My Sub-Zero keeps making ice when the bin is full. Is that adjustable?
The UC-15I stops when ice touches a bin thermostat, and that thermostat has a control behind the kickplate that raises or lowers the stopping point. If turning it does not change anything, the thermostat itself is tested on a visit.
Can I use a store-brand cleaner in my Sub-Zero ice machine?
Sub-Zero's guide names its own ice machine cleaner and sanitizer as the only products to use. Using the wrong product can damage parts that touch the water, so we use the maker's products on cleaning visits.
Why does my Sub-Zero make hollow or shallow cubes?
Sub-Zero ties hollow cubes to a filter that needs changing and to low water pressure, and cube weight can also be raised with extra freeze time. A new filter and a pressure check come before any part is replaced.
