What E28
actually means.

AuCS is Manitowoc's automatic cleaning accessory, which runs remedial cleaning cycles on its own. If the cleaning option is selected but the accessory board is missing or not connected, the control logs E28. It clears itself as soon as the hardware is detected, and ice making is not affected.

What to do when E28 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Manitowoc's own guidance for E28 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check whether this head actually has the AuCS accessory fitted.

02

If it does not, have the AuCS setting turned off in the menu so the entry stops appearing.

03

If the accessory is fitted but still not found, book a visit to check its cable.

Cleared?

The light or code is gone, and the machine fills, freezes and drops a full batch of cubes into the bin with no new part. If it returns within a week, or the clean light comes back straight after a cleaning cycle, mention that in the booking.

What not to do

E28 is not a sign that the head is dirty or needs cleaning now. It also does not stop ice production.

What you may
notice with it.

The ice machine problems E28 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the ice machine before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Nothing is broken; the control is reporting a state someone chose or a routine it runs: a clean or sanitize reminder counting the hours since the last cycle, a delay of a few minutes after power returns before the pump and compressor start, a bin-full light while the bin control is satisfied, or a standby or off mode someone chose at the keypad. No part is needed; finishing the cycle the light asks for, waiting out the delay or the key sequence from the manual ends it.

Questions
about E28.

Can I clear E28 myself?
Check whether this head actually has the AuCS accessory fitted.
Does E28 mean my Manitowoc skipped its cleaning?
It means automatic cleaning could not run because the accessory was not found. The six-month de-scale and sanitize Manitowoc asks for still has to be done by hand.
Can I ignore E28 on a Manitowoc?
If no AuCS is fitted, the entry is harmless, but turn the setting off so real alerts are easier to spot.
Does AuCS replace a full cleaning on a Manitowoc?
No. It runs remedial cleanings between the full de-scale and sanitize, which still needs the head and bin taken apart.

Back to your everyday

Still showing E28?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
