Sub-Zero ice machine with the blue ICE light flashing: automatic shut-off

The UC-15I stops itself after two freeze and harvest cycles in a row that each reach the 55-minute maximum, or after about 120 cycles, roughly two days, that never satisfy the bin.

What ICE flashing
actually means.

The UC-15I stops itself after two freeze and harvest cycles in a row that each reach the 55-minute maximum, or after about 120 cycles, roughly two days, that never satisfy the bin. The steady blue ICE light then flashes. Sub-Zero's own steps start with the water, because a machine that gets too little water cannot finish a cycle.

What to do when ICE flashing shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Sub-Zero's own guidance for ICE flashing on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Find the water shut-off for the ice machine, behind the kickplate, in a nearby cabinet or in the basement, and make sure it is fully open.

02

After the water is back on, allow up to an hour for the first harvest; Sub-Zero expects one or two batches in that time.

03

With a filter installed, remove it for a trial run; more water gets through without it, and if ice returns the filter was the problem.

04

If the machine still makes no ice, book a visit.

It usually turns into ice machine harvest repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

A steady blue ICE light is normal and simply means the machine is making ice. The flashing CLEAN light belongs to the cleaning cycle and has nothing to do with this shut-off.

Questions
about ICE flashing.

Can I clear ICE flashing myself?
Find the water shut-off for the ice machine, behind the kickplate, in a nearby cabinet or in the basement, and make sure it is fully open. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
How do I reset a Sub-Zero ice machine with the ICE light flashing?
Fix the reason it stopped first: open the water, then give it an hour. Sub-Zero also suggests running it briefly without the filter to see whether flow was the problem.
Can a clogged filter make my Sub-Zero ICE light flash?
Yes. A restricted filter slows the water, cycles run long and the machine shuts itself off. The REPLACE FILTER light comes on after 8,000 cycles, but a filter can clog sooner on poor water.
My Sub-Zero ice machine ran for two days and then the ICE light started flashing. Why?
The second shut-off condition is about 120 cycles that never fill the bin. Very warm surroundings melt the unrefrigerated bin as fast as it fills, or the bin thermostat may not be sensing the ice, so book a visit if the room is normal.

Back to your everyday

Still showing ICE flashing?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
