What E01
actually means.

Every freeze cycle has a ceiling on a Manitowoc Indigo head. When the ice thickness probe never calls for harvest before that ceiling, the board forces a harvest, counts the miss, and after enough misses in a row it stops the machine and stores E01. Scale on the evaporator, a starved water trough, a hot or dirty condenser and a weak sealed system all stretch the freeze.

What to do when E01 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Manitowoc's own guidance for E01 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Restart the way Manitowoc describes: press On/Off until the screen reads Off, then press it again so it reads Making Ice.

02

Check that the water supply valve to the head is open and that the room around the head is not unusually hot.

03

Look at the condenser grille or air filter; if it is matted with dust, clean the filter as the manual shows.

04

If the head stops again with E01, book a visit so the probe, the water level and the sealed system can be measured.

Still there?

It usually turns into ice machine harvest repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E01 does not mean the ice falls slowly or sticks; that is E02. It also is not a power problem, because the board keeps running cycles until the count is reached.

Where E01 usually leads

Ice machine harvest repair.

Thickness probe, curtain switch, harvest assist and hot gas valve · low to moderate.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Indigo and Indigo NXT modular heads keep E-numbers in the Event Log (Menu, Service, Event Log). Older Indigo boards stop after six 60-minute freeze cycles; Indigo NXT firmware stops after three 35-minute ones.

Questions
about E01.

Can I clear E01 myself?
Restart the way Manitowoc describes: press On/Off until the screen reads Off, then press it again so it reads Making Ice. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why did my Manitowoc Indigo stop and log E01 overnight?
Night is when a building's water and air are at their extremes: a closed kitchen can run hot and a filter can run low on pressure. The head simply ran out of freeze time too many times in a row. Restart it once and watch the next cycle.
Does descaling fix E01 on a Manitowoc?
Often, when the evaporator is coated and the probe is filmed over, because scale slows the freeze. Manitowoc asks for a full de-scale and sanitize at least every six months, so a head that is overdue should be cleaned before parts are blamed.
Will E01 clear itself on a Manitowoc head?
The stored entry stays in the Event Log until it is cleared, but the head restarts when you cycle the On/Off button. If it keeps running normally, the cause was passing; if it stops again, the manual says to call for service.

Still showing E01?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
