What SL#1 + SL#2
actually means.

When a KoolAire head fills, water should lift the harvest float within four minutes of the inlet valve opening. If it does not, the board pauses the head for 30 minutes with both lights flashing, then tries again. After 100 misses in a row it stops. A closed supply valve, a blocked filter, a clogged inlet screen, a dump valve stuck open, or a float that sticks are the usual reasons.

What to do when SL#1 + SL#2 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Koolaire's own guidance for SL#1 + SL#2 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check that the water supply valve to the head is fully open and that the filter cartridge is not overdue.

02

Look in the trough: if water drains away as fast as it enters, the dump valve may be stuck open.

03

Wait for the 30-minute pause to end; if both lights keep flashing on the next fill, book a visit.

It usually turns into ice machine water valve and filter repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Two lights at once are not two problems; together they are a separate, water-side limit. It also does not mean the head has lost power, since the board is clearly awake.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. KoolAire K, KP and KT Kube heads with the toggle-switch control board. Boards with software revision 3.2 and later cap the freeze at 35 minutes and the harvest at 7 minutes; earlier boards use 60 and 3.5 minutes. The first cycle after a manual start or a full bin is exempt from this check.

Questions
about SL#1 + SL#2.

Can I clear SL#1 + SL#2 myself?
Check that the water supply valve to the head is fully open and that the filter cartridge is not overdue. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
My KoolAire flashes both lights, then restarts by itself. Is that normal?
That is how service limit 3 works: a 30-minute pause, then another attempt. If the water problem has passed, the head carries on; if not, it pauses again.
Can a new water filter cause both KoolAire lights to flash?
A filter that is installed wrong, or a supply valve left partly closed after the change, can starve the fill. Check the valve first.
Why do both lights on my KoolAire blink three times at start-up?
The board repeats the last service limit 3 at start-up until 100 normal cycles erase it, so a short blink on power-up can be history rather than a new problem.

Still showing SL#1 + SL#2?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
