What b
actually means.

Scotsman machines stop when the bin control reports ice at the set level, and the display shows b. On a cuber with the optional ultrasonic level sensor, the level can be set lower than the bin top. The machine restarts on its own when ice is used.

What to do when b shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Scotsman's own guidance for b on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the bin: if it is full, nothing is wrong.

02

If the bin is not full, check that ice is not piled up against the sensor or the curtain.

03

If b stays with an empty bin, book a visit to test the bin control.

Cleared?

The light or code is gone, and the machine fills, freezes and drops a full batch of cubes into the bin with no new part. If it returns within a week, or the clean light comes back straight after a cleaning cycle, mention that in the booking.

What not to do

b is not an error code; it is a normal state. It does not mean the machine has stopped for good.

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Nothing is broken; the control is reporting a state someone chose or a routine it runs: a clean or sanitize reminder counting the hours since the last cycle, a delay of a few minutes after power returns before the pump and compressor start, a bin-full light while the bin control is satisfied, or a standby or off mode someone chose at the keypad. No part is needed; finishing the cycle the light asks for, waiting out the delay or the key sequence from the manual ends it.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Prodigy and Prodigy ELITE cubers (MC and C models) show one character in the code display next to the lights. Prodigy flaked and nugget machines with the CM3 control (N and F models) use the same display with a different code list.

Questions
about b.

Can I clear b myself?
Check the bin: if it is full, nothing is wrong.
My Scotsman shows b but the bin is half empty. Why?
A level control may be set to stop early, or ice may be bridged in front of the sensor. If neither, the bin control needs testing.
How long does a Scotsman take to restart after b?
It restarts once ice is taken and the bin control clears.
Is b the same as O on a Scotsman?
No. b is a full-bin stop that restarts on its own. O means the machine is off or on standby.

Back to your everyday

Still showing b?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
