Scotsman ice machines,
specifically.

Scotsman sells Prodigy ELITE modular cubers, undercounter cube and nugget units, Prodigy Plus nugget heads and Meridian and iceValet dispensers in the US. The Prodigy family speaks through a one-character code display and four front lights, so a Scotsman visit starts by reading that code and the last ten stored codes.

The Scotsman lineup

What is particular
to Scotsman.

We service Prodigy ELITE modular cubers (MC models), CU and UC undercounter cubers, Prodigy Plus nugget heads (N models) and UN undercounter nugget units, and Meridian HID ice and water dispensers. Cubers and nugget machines use different controllers, which is why we confirm the family first.

One character tells a lot

The Prodigy code display shows F, H, b or O in normal running and numbers for problems, blinking while it retries and steady once it gives up. The same controller stores the last ten codes, which we recall before touching anything.

Cubers and nugget machines differ

A Prodigy cuber and a CM3 nugget machine share the display, but code 1, 2 and 4 mean different things on each. We always confirm which family the machine belongs to before reading a code.

Photo eyes watch nugget ice

On Prodigy nugget and flake machines, photo eyes in the ice chute confirm that ice is actually coming out. Dirty eyes can stop a healthy machine with a no-ice code.

A reminder light for de-scaling

A yellow De-scale/Sanitize light comes on after a set stretch of powered-up time, six months by default and adjustable. ELITE cubers also connect to Scotsman's ICELINQ app by Bluetooth.

Parts

Controllers, water level and ice thickness sensors, curtain switches and auger parts differ between cuber and nugget families, so the full model number matters when ordering. On nugget machines the controller also watches the auger motor and reports an overload as code 2.

Repair or replace

Sensors, valves, pumps and controllers are routine repairs on a Prodigy machine. On a nugget machine, an auger gearbox or evaporator worn by years of hard water is the point where comparing repair with a new head is fair.

Questions about
Scotsman ice machines.

How do I see past codes on a Scotsman Prodigy?
From standby, hold Off for three seconds, then press Harvest on a cuber (Clean on a CM3 nugget machine) to step through the last ten codes, newest first.
What does a blinking number mean on my Scotsman?
Blinking means the controller hit a limit and is retrying on its own. A steady number means it stopped and needs a manual restart.
Why does my Scotsman nugget machine show 1 with water on?
On nugget machines, 1 means the photo eyes saw no ice leaving the chute in time. Dirty eyes, low water and cooling problems all lead there.
Does Scotsman have an app for its ice machines?
Yes. Prodigy ELITE models connect by Bluetooth to the Scotsman ICELINQ app to monitor and control the machine.
