What 7
actually means.

The discharge sensor lets the controller protect the compressor from overheating. If the reading is impossible, from an open or shorted sensor or a loose plug, it shows 7. Without that reading the high-temperature check behind code 4 cannot work.

What to do when 7 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Scotsman's own guidance for 7 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press Off and then On to see whether the code clears.

02

Keep the air filter clean meanwhile, since the controller cannot guard against high discharge temperature.

03

Book a visit to test the sensor and its lead.

It usually turns into ice machine bin control repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

7 does not mean the discharge line is actually hot; that is 4. It is not the sump sensor, which is 5.

What you may
notice with it.

The ice machine problems 7 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the ice machine before anyone is booked.

Questions
about 7.

Can I clear 7 myself?
Press Off and then On to see whether the code clears. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does code 7 matter on a Scotsman if it still makes ice?
The sensor is the compressor's heat guard. With it out, overheating goes unnoticed, so fix it soon.
Can a loose wire cause code 7 on a Scotsman?
Yes. An open circuit reads as an impossible temperature, the same as a failed sensor.
Does replacing the Scotsman controller fix code 7?
Scotsman says a diagnostic code other than E does not point to the controller. The sensor and its wiring come first.

Back to your everyday

Still showing 7?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
