What 4
actually means.

On a Prodigy cuber, the controller watches discharge temperature and stops at 250 °F. On a CM3 nugget or flake machine, 4 means a pressure control opened. Both usually trace to a condenser that cannot shed heat: a clogged filter, a dirty coil, a failed fan, hot air being drawn back in, or on remote systems, a low charge.

What to do when 4 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Scotsman's own guidance for 4 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Clean the condenser air filter and give the machine room to breathe on all vented sides.

02

Make sure it is not pulling in hot air from an oven, dishroom or its own exhaust.

03

If 4 returns after the airflow is clear, turn the machine off and book a visit.

Still there?

It usually turns into ice machine condenser and fan repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

4 is not a water problem, which is 3, and it does not come from the temperature sensor itself failing, which is 7.

Where 4 usually leads

Ice machine condenser and fan repair.

Condenser cleaning, fan motor, water regulating valve or remote condenser work · low to moderate.

Prodigy and Prodigy ELITE cubers (MC and C models) show one character in the code display next to the lights. Prodigy flaked and nugget machines with the CM3 control (N and F models) use the same display with a different code list. ELITE maximum discharge temperature: 250 °F.

Questions
about 4.

Can I clear 4 myself?
Clean the condenser air filter and give the machine room to breathe on all vented sides. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my Scotsman show 4 only in summer?
The condenser rejects heat into the room air. When the room is hot and the filter is dusty, discharge temperature climbs past the limit. Better airflow often solves it.
Can I clean the condenser on my Scotsman myself?
The removable air filter, yes. Brushing the coil behind it and checking the fan means working inside the cabinet, which is a visit.
Is code 4 on a Scotsman a sign of a leak?
On remote systems Scotsman lists low charge as a cause. On R290 machines, any gas smell or hiss means leaving the room and keeping switches off.

Still showing 4?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
