What 5
actually means.

The sump sensor tells the Prodigy controller the water temperature in the reservoir. If its resistance reads outside the expected band, the controller shows 5. A damaged sensor, a loose connector or a chafed lead are the usual causes.

What to do when 5 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Scotsman's own guidance for 5 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Note the code and whether the machine still cycles.

02

Press Off then On once to see if the reading recovers.

03

If 5 stays, book a visit to test the sensor; it connects inside the control box.

Still there?

It usually turns into ice machine bin control repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

5 is not a warm-water or slow-freeze problem; that shows as 1. It is also not the discharge sensor, which is 7.

Where 5 usually leads

Ice machine bin control repair.

Bin thermostat, paddle, curtain switch or ice-level sensor · low.

Questions
about 5.

Can I clear 5 myself?
Note the code and whether the machine still cycles. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I keep using my Scotsman with code 5?
If it still makes ice, the ice is fine to use. The controller has lost one input it relies on, so book a visit before it causes other problems.
Does code 5 appear on Scotsman nugget machines?
No. The CM3 nugget and flake control has no code 5; if you see 5, you have a cuber.
Is code 5 the same as code 7 on a Scotsman?
Both are sensor readings out of limits, but 5 is the sump sensor and 7 is the discharge sensor.

Back to your everyday

Still showing 5?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
