What E3
actually means.

During freezing the evaporator should be cold. If the BLMI board reads more than 140 F there, it stops to protect the system and shows E3. Blue Air's list is short: water that is too hot, a sensor or connector problem, or the control board.

What to do when E3 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Blue Air's own guidance for E3 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check that the water line is not picking up heat from a hot water pipe or appliance nearby.

02

Switch the machine off and on once and note whether E3 returns at the next freeze.

03

If it does, book a visit to test the evaporator sensor and its connector.

It usually turns into ice machine compressor and sealed system repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E3 is not a sensor that is completely disconnected; that is E6. It is also not the same as E1, which is a freeze that took too long.

What you may
notice with it.

The ice machine problems E3 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the ice machine before anyone is booked.

In Blue Air's own words

If temperature outside the evaporator during freezing cycles goes over 140°F (60°C), machine stops to protect the cycle and error code (E3) is shown

Questions
about E3.

Can I clear E3 myself?
Check that the water line is not picking up heat from a hot water pipe or appliance nearby. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
How can the evaporator on my Blue Air read 140 F while freezing?
Usually it is not really that hot: a sensor or its connector gives a false reading. Very hot incoming water is the other cause Blue Air names.
Is E3 on a Blue Air a cooling system leak?
Blue Air does not list a leak for E3. Its causes are hot water, the sensor or connector, and the control board.
Can I keep running my Blue Air after E3?
It stops on its own to protect itself. If it returns after a restart, book a visit.

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
