What Er01
actually means.

The evaporator is where the nugget ice forms, and after half an hour of running it should be well below freezing. If it still reads 32°F or warmer, the control stops and blinks every lamp; Viking's own list starts with a possible refrigerant leak and then the sensor and its mounting.

What to do when Er01 shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Viking's own guidance for Er01 on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check that the front grille is clear and that the room is not unusually hot, since both slow the cooling.

02

Turn the machine off and leave it off; restarting it repeatedly will not fix a cooling problem.

03

Book a visit: the sealed system on this model holds R600a, a flammable refrigerant, and is checked only by a technician.

What not to do

Er01 is not the same as all three lamps lit steady, which is Er25, an evaporator that got too cold. It is also different from Er03, which blinks the Ice lamp alone after 10 minutes.

Questions
about Er01.

Can I clear Er01 myself?
Check that the front grille is clear and that the room is not unusually hot, since both slow the cooling. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does Viking Er01 always mean a refrigerant leak?
No. Viking lists a leak first, but a failed evaporator sensor or one that has come loose from its mounting produces the same signal.
My Viking shows Er01 and I smell something odd near it. What should I do?
This model uses a flammable refrigerant. Do not switch lights or appliances on or off nearby, open windows, leave the room, and call 911 if the smell is strong.
Can a dirty condenser cause Viking Er01?
Poor airflow slows cooling, so a clogged condenser can contribute. Viking asks for the condenser to be brushed or vacuumed 2 to 3 times a year.

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
