Perlick ice machines,
specifically.

Perlick, better known for bar and beverage equipment, sells two 15-inch residential ice machines in the US: a clear ice model and a cubelet model, each in a Signature Series and an ADA-height version. A Perlick visit is to a self-contained machine under a counter, and it starts with the machine's rocker control switch rather than a display.

Error codesPerlick's clear and cubelet ice machines show no error codes or indicator lights; they are run from a control switch, and trouble shows as the machine stopping, a full bin of water or ice that stops falling.

What is particular
to Perlick.

We service the Perlick HP15CI and HA15CI clear ice machines and the HP15CU and HA15CU cubelet ice machines, with gravity drain or drain pump. The clear model is a cube machine with a harvest cycle; the cubelet model is an auger machine, and the two are serviced differently.

A switch, not a display

Perlick's ice machines are run from a control switch with ICE and OFF positions, plus WASH on the clear model and DRAIN on the cubelet model. There are no codes or indicator lights to read, so a Perlick diagnosis is done by watching the cycle and measuring.

The cubelet model is an auger machine

The cubelet unit has a gear motor and an extruding head, closer to a nugget machine than a cube maker. Perlick lists seal bolts, bearings and the gear motor drain pan in its maintenance schedule, so a noisy or leaking cubelet machine gets those checked first.

A backup switch that cuts power

On pump-equipped models, a back-up safety switch in the drain pump turns the machine off when water cannot get out, and restores power once the pump level drops. A machine that goes dead with water in the pump reservoir is usually a blocked drain line, not a dead board.

R-290 in both models

Both machines carry a small charge of R-290, a flammable refrigerant. Sealed-system work is done without open flame, with the room ventilated.

Parts

Perlick parts are looked up by the nameplate numbers inside the cabinet. Cubelet seal bolts are one-use parts that must be replaced each time they are removed, so they come on any extruding head visit.

Repair or replace

A water valve, drain pump, bin control or gear motor is a normal repair on a Perlick that still freezes. Worn extruding head bearings on a cubelet machine are a planned repair rather than a reason to replace the unit.

Questions about
Perlick ice machines.

My Perlick ice machine shut off by itself and there is water in the bin. Why?
On pump models, the drain pump's back-up safety switch turns the machine off when water cannot drain. Look for a kinked or blocked drain line; if the machine does not come back once water drains, book a visit.
Does a Perlick ice machine show error codes?
No. Perlick's clear and cubelet machines have a control switch and no display or indicator codes, so problems are traced by testing the cycle on site.
How often should a Perlick ice machine be cleaned?
Perlick lists cleaning and sanitizing yearly for the clear model and every six months for the cubelet model, with the bin drain maintained every three months. Poor water can call for a shorter schedule.
Is a Perlick cubelet the same as nugget ice?
It is made the same way, by an auger that pushes ice through an extruding head, so it is serviced like a nugget machine. The texture is Perlick's own.
