What is particular
to True Residential.

We service the True TCIM-422 through TCIM-830 air-cooled modular cube heads and the TIB storage bins they sit on, including versions with the TrueZone UV system and the time-of-flight bin level sensor.

A touchscreen with an alarm log

The TCIM heads are run from a touchscreen with an active alarm screen and an alarm log that keeps earlier events. Numbered codes from E1 to E34 appear with a plain description, so we read the log before touching anything, even when the machine is running again.

R-290 in a small charge

True Ice machines run on R-290, a propane refrigerant, and the manual caps the charge at about 150 grams per system. Any sealed-system work is done with hydrocarbon leak detection and no open flame near the machine.

Water level read by air pressure

Instead of a float, the sump water level is read by a pneumatic sensor that turns pressure into millimeters on the info screen. Fill, purge and leak alarms all depend on that reading, so the sensor tube and its seat on the board are checked on any water alarm.

A condenser fan that can run backward

The main screen has an RCU key that reverses the condenser fan motors to blow dust out, and the air filter is meant to be washed monthly. High-pressure alarms on a True head usually start with a clogged filter or coil, not a failed compressor.

Parts

True publishes a service manual for the TCIM heads and a firmware update procedure, and parts are matched to the model and serial on the tag in the cabinet. Transducers, probes and UV bulbs are the parts we see most.

Repair or replace

A True head is a current design, so probes, transducers, the water inlet valve, the drain valve and the pump are almost always worth replacing. On a head whose compressor has failed, the age of the machine and how much ice the business needs decide whether a repair or a new head makes sense.

Where do I see the alarm history on a True ice machine?
The touchscreen has an active alarm screen and, one tap further, an alarm log with earlier events. A photo of the log before it is cleared saves time on the visit.
How often does True want the air filter on its ice machines cleaned?
True's schedule asks for the air filter to be inspected monthly and washed with warm water and a neutral cleaner when it is dirty. A coil that needs chemical cleaning is left to a service technician.
Is the refrigerant in a True ice machine dangerous?
It is R-290, a propane refrigerant, in a small sealed charge that is safe in normal use. If you smell gas or hear a hiss near the machine, leave the lights and switches alone, ventilate the room, step out and book a visit.
