Ice-O-Matic
Ice Machine Repair

Ice-O-Matic machines get a visit that starts at the water inlet and the distribution tube, where scale often shows up first.

Ice-O-Matic ice machines,
specifically.

Ice-O-Matic, based in Denver, sells Elevation Series CIM cube heads, undercounter units, GEM Pearl and Quartz nugget machines, and ice dispensers. Its current cube heads report problems through colored flashes on the POWER and CLEAN buttons rather than a text display, so a visit starts by counting flashes.

The Ice-O-Matic lineup

What is particular
to Ice-O-Matic.

We service Elevation Series CIM modular cube heads, Ice-O-Matic undercounter units, GEM Pearl and Quartz nugget machines and Ice-O-Matic dispensers. Self-contained CIM heads now run on R290 and remote units on R449A.

Codes are colors and counts

The Elevation CIM shows Error 1 to Error 7 as quick, double or triple flashes in red on POWER and yellow on CLEAN. Holding both buttons for three seconds clears the codes and resets the counters.

A nickel-plated evaporator

The CIM evaporator is nickel-plated over copper, and Ice-O-Matic allows only nickel-safe cleaner. A rusty or rainbow-dull plate after cleaning tells us the wrong product was used.

An anti-slush pause

A thermistor in the sump pauses the water pump briefly as the water nears freezing, so slush does not form. When that thermistor fails, the head shows Error 2 only while switched off.

Gravity drains only

Ice-O-Matic asks for separate, vented gravity drains for the bin, purge and condenser, and advises against a drain pump on CIM heads. Many purge alarms trace back to the drain, not the head.

Parts

Ice-O-Matic publishes parts manuals by model, and its boards changed around serial 2106, so the serial number decides which board and which code meanings apply. Only nickel-safe chemicals should be used on the CIM evaporator.

Repair or replace

Thermistors, float switches, purge and inlet valves and boards are routine CIM repairs. A stripped nickel plate or a failed compressor on an older head is where comparing repair with a new R290 head makes sense.

Questions about
Ice-O-Matic ice machines.

How do I clear an error on an Ice-O-Matic CIM?
Hold the POWER and CLEAN buttons together for three seconds. The lights flash blue and yellow once when the codes and counters reset; if the error returns, book a visit.
What cleaner can I use on an Ice-O-Matic?
Only a nickel-safe ice machine cleaner and sanitizer, because the CIM evaporator is nickel-plated. Ice-O-Matic asks for cleaning at least every six months.
Why is my Ice-O-Matic flashing blue slowly?
That is a three-minute restart delay after a full bin, not an error. It restarts on its own.
Can I use a drain pump with an Ice-O-Matic CIM?
Ice-O-Matic advises against it. The bin, purge and condenser drains should each run by gravity to a vented floor drain.
