What is particular
to Whirlpool.

We service the 15-inch Whirlpool clear-ice machines in stainless, black and white finishes (WUI75X15H and WUI95X15H series), freestanding or under a counter. Whirlpool does not list a nugget machine, a modular head or a dispenser in the US; its freezer ice maker kits belong to the refrigerator.

Gravity drain unless you add a pump

The WUI75X15HZ is meant to sit over a floor drain. Whirlpool sells pump 1901A separately for installs up to 10 feet from an under-sink drain, so a wet floor on a Whirlpool first raises the question of whether a pump was ever fitted.

A kinked drain hose can cut power

Whirlpool warns that a twisted or pinched drain hose can cause low or no ice and even no power or intermittent power. A machine that goes dark after it was pushed back into its cabinet gets its hose checked before its board.

The disposer knockout plug

When the drain is tied into a garbage disposer, the disposer's knockout plug has to be removed. If it was left in, water cannot leave and Whirlpool says the machine can lose power, a common first-week problem after an install.

No ice without a locked filter

The filter sits by the controls, and Whirlpool states the machine will not produce ice if the filter is not turned into its locked position. A no-ice call right after a filter change starts with that quarter turn.

Parts

The optional drain pump is Whirlpool part 1901A, and the filter is sold separately for the housing next to the controls. Circulating pumps, water valves, evaporator plates and boards are ordered by the model and serial numbers on the label inside the cabinet.

Repair or replace

A drain problem, a valve, a filter housing or a circulating pump is worth fixing on a Whirlpool that still freezes a full slab. If the compressor or evaporator has failed on a machine past its first years and parts are on back order, compare the repair with a new unit before committing.

Whirlpool links a kinked or pinched drain hose to no power or intermittent power as well as to low ice. Pull the machine out, straighten the hose, and push it back in carefully; if the power still drops, book a visit.
Does a Whirlpool ice machine come with a drain pump?
The WUI75X15HZ is sold as a gravity-drain machine. A pump, part 1901A, is sold separately for installs where water has to be lifted to an under-sink drain within 10 feet.
How often should a Whirlpool ice machine be cleaned?
Whirlpool asks for a cleaning when the Cleaning Needed light comes on, after about 9 months, or sooner if production drops, and says harder water can call for it every 6 months.
Why did my new Whirlpool ice machine stop right after install?
