Maxx Ice ice machines,
specifically.

Maxx Ice is a value line of cube ice machines: modular heads from 22 to 30 inches wide that sit on a separate bin, and self-contained undercounter units from compact 15-inch models up to machines with a 100-pound bin. Most visits are to bars, cafes and small restaurants, where the machine is read from its LCD or its three colored lights before any panel comes off.

The Maxx Ice lineup

What is particular
to Maxx Ice.

We service Maxx Ice Intelligent Series and earlier modular heads (MIM360N through MIM1000), self-contained units (MIM75 to MIM320N and the V-Series), and the 15-inch indoor and outdoor MIM50 models. Maxx Ice also sells a small countertop nugget appliance, which belongs to our ice maker service rather than this one.

A water curtain doubles as the bin switch

On the modular heads, a full bin holds the water curtain open and the machine stops with Bin Full. A curtain knocked out of its hinge or propped by one cube does the same thing, so we check the curtain before the board.

Two generations of control panel

Intelligent Series machines (the N models) have an LCD that spells out the stage and marks a problem with a blinking exclamation mark. Older and smaller models use red, green and yellow lights whose blink patterns carry the same news.

Drain pump on some 15-inch units

The MIM50P and MIM50P-O carry an internal drain pump for sites without a floor drain. When it cannot keep up, a buzzer sounds, and Maxx Ice tells the owner to shut the machine and the water off and dry the bin.

A purge setting you can change

Intelligent Series units let you set how often the water trough is purged, from 0 to 20 cycles, and the factory setting is 20. On hard water we often shorten that interval rather than blame scale on the parts.

Parts

Maxx Ice posts spec sheets and manuals for each model and runs a technical service locator and a service claim form on its site. Boards, probes and water valves are matched to the full model number, since full-dice and half-dice versions of one size differ.

Repair or replace

Water valves, probes, pumps, fans and the curtain switch are inexpensive fixes that keep a Maxx Ice running for years. A compressor or evaporator failure on a small, older self-contained unit is where replacement often makes more sense than repair.

Questions about
Maxx Ice ice machines.

My Maxx Ice head says Bin Full but the bin is half empty. Why?
The machine reads a full bin through its water curtain, so anything holding the curtain open looks like a full bin. Check that the curtain hangs freely and that no cube is wedged under it.
What does the blinking exclamation mark on a Maxx Ice LCD mean?
The self-check has found a problem with a probe, the condenser temperature, the water supply or a cycle that ran too long. Pressing ADJUST shows which one.
Why does my Maxx Ice undercounter unit beep continuously?
On the MIM50P and MIM50P-O the buzzer means the internal drain pump is not clearing water. Turn off the machine and the water supply, empty the bin and wipe up any overflow before anything else.
How often should a Maxx Ice machine be cleaned?
The manuals call for cleaning the ice-making system with an ice machine cleaner through the machine's CLEAN cycle, more often where the water is hard. The condenser also needs regular cleaning so the machine does not run long cycles.
