Atosa ice machines,
specifically.

Atosa sells half-dice cube ice machines in the US as modular heads for a separate bin, self-contained undercounter units with an 88-pound bin, and a hotel ice dispenser, all on R290. Two control generations are in the field: the earlier Y-series board that reports through colored LEDs, and newer YRS, YRM and YRU units with a digital display that prints FUL and E1 to E8.

The Atosa lineup

What is particular
to Atosa.

We service Atosa YR450 and YR800 modular heads, YRM and YRS heads, YR140 and YR280 undercounter units, and the HD350 hotel ice dispenser. The HD350 has its own manual with slightly different protection limits from the heads.

Propane in every current model

Atosa's ice machines run on R290, which is propane, and the newer manual caps the charge at 500 grams. Any repair that opens the sealed system needs the right tools and a ventilated space, and a gas smell near the machine is an emergency.

A filter in the box

Atosa ships its ice machines with a 3M water filter system, and the air filter in front of the condenser is removable. Both are the first things we check when production drops, because a clogged filter starves water or air.

Same letters, different meaning

On the older Y-series LED board, E1 is a long freeze cycle; on the newer display models, E1 is a condenser temperature sensor. We read the model number before we read a code.

The door switch counts as bin control

Display models stop with FUL when the bin is full and report E8 when the magnetic door switch reads open. A water curtain hung out of place can trigger either one.

Parts

Atosa publishes a parts breakdown with each ice machine on its site, and warranty claims go through Atosa directly. Boards and probes differ between the LED and display generations, so the full model and serial number decide the part.

Repair or replace

Probes, inlet valves, the curtain or door switch and fans are sensible repairs on any Atosa. A compressor failure outside the extended compressor coverage on a heavily scaled early Y-series head is the case where a new machine is worth comparing.

Questions about
Atosa ice machines.

My Atosa shows E1. Is it the same on every model?
No. On the display models E1 points to the condenser temperature sensor, while the older Y-series board used E1 for a freeze cycle that ran 40 minutes three times. Check the model number on the rating plate before you look anything up.
How often does Atosa want its ice machine cleaned?
The current manual asks for cleaning and sanitizing at least every three months and a wash of the condenser air filter once a month.
Is the R290 in my Atosa ice machine dangerous?
In normal use it stays sealed inside the system. R290 is flammable, so a hiss or gas smell means no switches or flames, open the doors and windows, leave the room and book a visit.
What does FUL on my Atosa display mean?
The bin is full, or the door switch reads the curtain as open, and the machine has stopped on purpose. Take some ice out and check the water curtain hangs in place.
