What Clean and Sanitize
actually means.

Champion dispensers count down a cleaning interval that can be set from one to six months, chosen from the hardness or dissolved solids in the local water. When it runs out, Clean and Sanitize appears until the cleaning is done and the timer is reset.

What to do when Clean and Sanitize shows on the ice machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Follett's own guidance for Clean and Sanitize on its ice machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Schedule the cleaning; the unit keeps working while the reminder shows.

02

Use the cleaning procedure in the Follett manual and only the cleaner it names.

03

After cleaning, reset the reminder timer as the manual describes.

04

If you would rather not handle the cleaner, book a visit for the cleaning.

Cleared?

The light or code is gone, and the machine fills, freezes and drops a full batch of cubes into the bin with no new part. If it returns within a week, or the clean light comes back straight after a cleaning cycle, mention that in the booking.

What not to do

Clean and Sanitize is not an error and does not mean the ice is unsafe that day. It is also separate from Filter Replacement Required, which counts its own interval.

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Nothing is broken; the control is reporting a state someone chose or a routine it runs: a clean or sanitize reminder counting the hours since the last cycle, a delay of a few minutes after power returns before the pump and compressor start, a bin-full light while the bin control is satisfied, or a standby or off mode someone chose at the keypad. No part is needed; finishing the cycle the light asks for, waiting out the delay or the key sequence from the manual ends it.

Questions
about Clean and Sanitize.

Can I clear Clean and Sanitize myself?
Schedule the cleaning; the unit keeps working while the reminder shows.
How often does a Follett Champion need cleaning?
At most every six months, and sooner where the water is harder. Follett's table shortens the interval as dissolved solids rise.
Will my Champion stop dispensing if I ignore Clean and Sanitize?
The reminder itself does not stop dispensing. Skipping cleaning lets scale and slime build, which leads to real problems later.
Can I use bleach when the Champion asks for cleaning?
Follow the cleaner named in the Follett manual. Follett's ice machine manuals rule out bleach.

Still showing Clean and Sanitize?

A booking with a code goes further when it carries the light or code copied as it appeared, the model and serial off the data plate, and a word on whether cubes still fall into the bin. With those three in hand, our office can match the probable part to your machine the same afternoon.
