Installation and setup,
guide by guide.
Most of the ice machine calls that turn out to have nothing broken begin with the installation: a drain that runs uphill for a few inches, a cabinet built so tight the condenser breathes its own exhaust, or a machine that was simply too small for a busy Saturday. This section is for the weeks before a machine arrives and for the day someone asks whether the old spot was ever right.

The guides describe what the installer does and why, using the makers' installation manuals and the FDA Food Code. Where we quote a clearance, a temperature band, a slope or a vent height, it belongs to the named model, and your own manual and nameplate come first.
Three decisions shape a machine's working life. The drain decides whether water leaves cleanly across an air gap or backs up into the bin. The room and the space around the cabinet decide how much ice the machine can make on a hot afternoon. The size decides whether the bin is full when the rush starts or scraped bare before it ends.
None of this asks an owner to pick up a wrench. Water lines, drains, electrical circuits and remote condensers are fitted by the installer to the manual and to local code, and the guides help you check the result and ask the right questions.
Not sure where to start? The short answerThe Ice Machine Drain and Its Air Gap: Why the Line Never Touches the Sewer
An ice machine drain air gap is the open space between the end of the machine's drain line and the rim of the floor sink it empties into.
The short answerRoom Heat and Clearance Around an Ice Machine: Give It Air to Breathe
Ice machine clearance is the open space the maker requires around the cabinet so the condenser can draw in room air and push hot air away.
The short answerHow to Size an Ice Machine for Your Busiest Day: Output, Bin and Room
How to size an ice machine comes down to three numbers: the ice your busiest day actually uses, how much of it is needed in the rush, and the machine's output in a hot room rather than a cool one.
